Lake Eyre North
Lake Eyre North covers an area of 9600 square km (approximately the size of Holland), is 144 km in length, 77 km in width and contains 400 million tonnes of salt. As an internally draining salt lake system, Lake Eyre North is more often dry than full. It has filled to capacity only three times in the last 150 years. When dry it is a spectacular and luminous white. When filled it becomes an awe inspiring inland sea, made up of incredible patterns and colours, with some of the world’s rarest aquatic life.
