Gunpowder, also known as Mount Gordon, is the site of a large copper mine located approximately 120 kilometres north of Mount Isa which is owned by Western Metals Ltd. Current ore production is from open cut whereas previous production was from an underground mine on the Mammoth ore resource. The open cut approach enabled significant expansion of production. Although mining activities at Mount Gordon are currently on hold, there is potential for renewed activity.
