To celebrate Hay’s farming ties; every year there is a competition to induct more shearing legends into the “hall of farmers” at the Festival of the Blades. Hay is home to some fascinating heritage buildings which are still accessible today – take the heritage walk and see the Hay Gaol Museum, and the Witcombe Fountain – a gift from the town mayor in 1883 to the people of the town. For the history buffs, there is the Hay POW Interpretive Centre, where you can learn the fascinating role that Hay and other towns in the Riverina had during both world wars.
