Located in the southern Riverina region of New South Wales, Jerilderie is 675 km south-west of Sydney and 165km west of Wagga Wagga. Jerilderie is primarily known for producing 25% of all of Australia’s tomatoes, and as being a prime Merino stud region. Other agricultural industries contributing to the small town is canola, rice, wheat, onions, grapes and soybeans. The home of one of Australia’s great folk tales, in 1879 Ned Kelly and his gang imprisoned two police offers, locked them in their own cells and walked around town the following day in their uniforms. The next day the gang robbed the local bank. Today you can follow the Ned Kelly Raid Trail to learn more and see for yourself the setting of this fascinating time.
