There are many mountain bike trails, bushwalking spots and for those who enjoy fishing, the annual Khancoban TroutFest happens every year in November around several fishing holes. The lake Khancoban Pondage is a great place for a picnic by the water in the warmer months, with fresh trout, salmon and redfin often being on the menu. Khancoban was established for workers involved in the Snowy Mountain Scheme, designed to provide hydro-electric power and water – the town is still mainly populated by workers at the power stations.
