Narromine is situated 40km west of Dubbo. Narromine was an Aboriginal word for “honey person”, and the town itself was named after a pastoral station which shared the same name. John Oxley was the first European to visit the region after following the Macquarie River. Narromine is a great destination for aviation buffs, as it claims to have the country’s oldest regional aero club. The town is world famous for having great thermals, and has a strong gliding community. Learn some aviation history of the country and region at the Narromine Aviation Museum, which has a large collection of artefacts, documents and photos. Each year the town hosts the Narromine Air Show and the National Ultralight Fly-in which are fantastic opportunities for aviation enthusiasts to get together.
