Tibooburra is a small outback town in north west New South Wales, over 1100km from Sydney. The gateway to the vast desert wasteland that is the Sturt National Park, the town is home to under 300 people. The most popular attraction at Tibooburra is the Toole’s Family Hotel, or most famously known as the Family Hotel. Built from locally sourced sandstone in 1882, the town has only had 18 owners over the years. Three artists travelled to Tibooburra in the 1960s to capture and paint the outback, and while staying at the Family Hotel painted murals on the walls – the largest of which takes up an entire wall beside the bar. Over the years many artists have travelled and left their own design, ensuring the pub is a very unique Australian outback art gallery.
