Tyagarah Nature Reserve is a strip of coastline running 7km between Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads. The beach is untainted and is great for the family to enjoy the surf, walk through the water, throw a line in the water, or build sandcastles with the kids. Many gather in spring to watch the humpback whale mums and their new calves on their trip from the Great Barrier Reef to Antarctica. The nature reserve has many walking tracks behind the sand dunes and for the more adventurous, there is a nearby nudist beach at the end of Grays Lane. There is even a picnic area next to the reserve, where you can head into the bush or to the beach. The beach is lined with wildflowers, midgen berry, purple spotted berries and white flowers – which attract the local birds.
