Theodore is located on the Dawson River more than 550km north west of Brisbane in the Shire of Banana. The town was to be near the location of major dam announced by the Queensland government in the early 1900’s as part of the Dawson River Irrigation Scheme. The construction of the dam was postponed and is yet to be built. The town is now an important base for the coal-rich Bowen Basin.
