A small town of under 900 people, Boggabri sits between Narrabri and Gunnedah in north-western New South Wales. The name derives from the local aboriginal language word for “having creeks”, a reference to Namoi River which runs through Boggabri. Perhaps the most famous attraction for tourists is Gin’s Leap; where a young aboriginal girl was promised to an elder of her tribe, but instead ran away with a man from another tribe. Pursued by her tribesman and with the couple seeing no way to escape – they jumped together to their deaths from the top of the large rock. Every year outdoor enthusiasts travel to the town for the Boggabri Drovers Campfire, which has entertainment, campfire cooking, shearing demonstrations and all things bush culture. It is a great opportunity for the family to “get away from it all “for a night or two and immerse yourself in the country lifestyle.
