One of the newest towns, Coleambally was established in 1968 in the Riverina area of New South Wales. It serves as the administrative centre for the Coleambally Irrigation Area. This scheme was opened in the 1950s where land was made available through a ballot. The land was offered with not infrastructure or fencing, so those who were allocated land had to prove that they had the funds to establish a farm. The main crop grown is rice and a rice mill is located near the town.
