Coonamble is located in the central-western plains of New South Wales, 575km north west of Sydney. The town is surrounded by the Macquarie Marshes, Pilliga State Forest and the Warrumbungle National park – it is the ideal spot to explore some of Australia’s wonders. The annual Coonamble Rodeo and Campdraft attract thousands of visitors and is the largest combined rodeo and campdraft in the Southern Hemisphere. The town experiences a wide range of temperatures, the coldest of days reach 0°C and the hottest of summer days soar to 40°C. The young bushranger John Dunn was also captured near Coonamble after a shootout with Police; he was later hanged after escaping custody at the age of 19. Coonamble has a range of agricultural industries contributing to the local economy, such as broadacre cropping, and sheep and cattle production.
