Inland of the Eurobodalla coast is Moruya, the name derives from an Aboriginal word meaning “home of the black swan”. Today, black swans can still be spotted in the water areas of Moruya. There are many great bays, beaches and headlands to explore, or one can head inland to the Deua National Park. The Deua Park has a huge gaping chasm known as The Big Hole. There are some fascinating wood sculptures created by internationally recognised artist, Bryan Carrick. The most recent creation is 3 metres tall and pays tribute to the aircrew and ground support staff that operated from Moruya airfield during the war years. Moruya has a quarry which has been operating since the 1850s, and some of the granite found was used for the pylons of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
